I just had to share this with everyone - Zumba is truly a new way to look at fitness.... Besides which, Beto takes his shirt off (for a split second)...and I forget then what a great teacher he is. Luckily, he puts it back on.... Watch:
2008 Zumba Convention from Zumba Fitness on Vimeo.
I also wrote an article on eHow for those who are interested in learning how to Zumba. It's both a noun and a verb: It's what we do! Anyway, it can seem intimidating to someone who is fascinated by zumba but not sure they should get into a class, try it out at home alone or whether they are even ready for a class. My article helps you know what you need and don't need to be ready to take a zumba class, then how to approach it so you get the most out of it. Write and let me know how you like it, and if there's anything I left out that I should have put it...or anything else for that matter.
My laptop still won't let me post to this blog (bummer!) and I got my cholesterol numbers done, so need to post that here. The good kind were up but so was the bad. I am not sure how it compares to the last ones I'd had done, but I think it was at least comparable to the ones I first had done, so I am not worse - just not sure if I am better or slightly worse than I was.

Friday, Sat, Sunday: Weekend Vacation
"To Thine Own Self be True, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man."
Inspiration for Weekend of Week 3 Induction Continues: We don't give up; we live so we can go on, we go on so we can live...
*******************************************
Random Thoughts:
Every once in a while we have to take a break. For various reasons, this was a time when I needed to take a break and concentrate on something and someone else for a change. It doesn't lessen the resolve or commitment; it admits that sometimes things have to give. We do not only "diet" so we can live and we definitely don't live to diet. Whenever you reach these points in your progress to your goal, the thing to remember is to maintain if you can, but forgive yourself for whatever does come of your stopping paying attention to the details for awhile. Things have a way of working themselves out.
PERSONAL HAZARD (S)- My fiance's birthday was this weekend and it was a time to relax some of my personal rules so that we could enjoy the weekend.

Assignment:
Progress so far:
Doctor Appt (for your numbers): Did it. The follow-up checkup is already scheduled for March.
READ THE BOOK: Did what I needed, still referring to as I "work the system."
ONGOING ASSIGNMENT: Induction continues: Food, Water, Exercise!! Continuing to develop a schedule and alternatives for exercise. Next week, I think I will let eDiets give me menu choices and work with their menus to develop a shopping list - takes some of the guesswork and pressure off for a week - just follow the recommendations to keep me at 25 carbs (yep - gonna come out of Induction "officially" next week and let eDiets figure out where 25 carbs are (versus the 20 or 30 that could easily happen on my own.)
NEW ASSIGNMENT: Shopping is done (did on Friday) for next week. Now we just follow the plan.

Vitals:
BP - not today
Weight: 186.0 to 187.5 (rose 1.5 pounds over the weekend)

Trig: 56
HDL: 93
LDL: 146
Vitals that day: Wt: 171 BP: 126/82 Pulse: 72
Exercise:
Stretching 30 min on Sunday
Cardio 30 min dancing, Saturday night
Strength
Water: very lax on this - was low by at least 32 oz on both Saturday and Sunday; definitely need to watch this on "special occasions" better.
Food: Didn't keep good track - chose low-carb options when I could, and recognized when I did not.
Breakfast:
Lunch:
Dinner:

Dessert:
________________________________
NOTES:
Wt: End of TTOTM finally, could have done better with water, food, and exercising this weekend (as to what factors probably affected my weight gain). Since finger points all over, all over is what I will tackle.
BP: Will take again at end of month.
Ketones: Will see later in the week - maybe Friday?

Road Trips or Car Trips - Heaven or Hell?
ROAD TRIPS - Doesn't everything fun just scream "Road Trip!" ?
I love car trips, but after a while they can get boring, and boring can be B-A-D for my hips...because then I want to eat FUN food - the kind that gives your mouth some interesting textures and flavors to deal with...we all have our faves, so I won't get your mouth watering over mine.
What to do? Most holidays have a trip in there somewhere.
Bring plenty of water, but plan that you may have to buy some while out. Make those stretching breaks and stretch them out a bit.
Take a stretch when you stop at the gas station. Cross your ankle over your knee (like a guy crossing his legs), then either bend forward or lift the other leg up to your chest. I like doing this with the steering wheel helping to hold the leg up to my chest. This is a great "opener" for the opposite hip. Do both sides, breathing and relaxing your muscles, particularly those that are trying to tighten. In yoga, this is called "breathing into (that muscle/joint)" and after a while, it feels just like that's what you're doing. You'll feel the muscles relax and the joint will limber up. Great for car trips that make you stiff.
Dance in the car - can be done driving or riding, but is easier if you control the music you hear ;) Arms are a little difficult, but you can contract your buttocks in traffic - at lights, or just by bouncing on your seat a bit. It's a different form of drumming your fingers. Think of it as being enthused by your music. Just don't lose your grip on reality or the wheel, and keep an eye on all your mirrors and the traffic around you. Choreograph the music in your head.
Buy new music for the trip - this is always good for making me feel less bored.
Vary the music. Use the radio when you go thru a town which has a wider choice of stations.
Try driving to country music when out in the countryside - the beat is interesting, the lyrics at times unbelievable and funny, and the talent is there, too. Or try any music you don't normally listen to - for 1/2 hour or so at a time to break up the monotony of the same-old same-old.
Stop for a real meal instead of drive-thru - treat yourself to a to-go salad at Applebees or another sit-down place that you find- either sit and eat it, or take it on the road - but make sure you're doing something you don't normally do on road trips.
Sometimes traditions are good for road trips, too. If you've got some that work for you in keeping the "bad foods" at bay when boredom sets in, post them here in comments. I usually do a lot of driving alone, so I can control the music and that helps me a lot. For others, having a crowd along may help. What kind of things have worked for you?
